Welcome to The Mock Up, a blog about the interaction of sports, science, statistics, and how data can be used to tell engaging stories about just about anything.
I am Thomas Mock, a 4th year PhD candidate researching the Neurobiology of Aging at the UNT Health Science Center.
This is my first blog, and in it you will find articles about some of my personal thoughts on my data-driven approach to fantasy football, techniques for data analysis across several platforms, successful storytelling through data visualization, and some scientific research (both mine and from others).
The whole idea behind starting a blog came from this Scientific American article highlighting an interesting idea, that "popular" writing (vs scientific writing/academic publishing) can help you better articulate your thoughts in all sorts of different formats. My hope is that I become a better storyteller, in presenting and visualizing data as well as in my writing and conversations.
